We calculate the water footprint of its products
The term "footprint" is entitled to indicate the mark left in nature due to the mere existence of a given product. Water is a natural resource which, although renewable, is liable to scarcity when we talk about water to acceptable levels of quality. The use of water is present in the production of any product intended for the consumer, is it alimentary or goods for the improvement of quality of life. Water may be incorporated into the product ( in the case of some foods) or may simply have been used in their production processes. The calculation of the "water footprint " accounts all the necessary water for a product production in an life cycle approach (through the entire supply chain, product manufacture, until its final disposal). The term "water footprint" was initially used within a "virtual water” approach and was introduced by Tony Allan at the beginning of the 1990s expressing how some countries tend to withstand the water deficiency of other countries with the export of products with a large water requirement for their production. The " water footprint " also covers the pollution in water bodies/ watersheds. It is an environmental indicator able to certify products within a program of "environmental labeling"
(ISO 14026 / ISO 14046 under elaboration)
